Change is in the Air

As a lifelong Steelers Fan, I can’t remember a time when there has been so much change in one offseason.  For Steelers Fans there are a gamut of emotions that we will be going through this offseason and the 2022 regular season.  To give you a perspective of all the changes that have taken place from the end of last season:

  • Big Ben Roethlisberger Retires
  • Keith Butler, Defensive Coordinator Retires
  • Frisman Jackson hired as WR Coach
  • Teryl Austin hired as Defensive Coordinator
  • Pat Meyer hired as OL Coach
  • Brian Flores hired as Senior Defensive Assistant/LBs Coach
  • Steelers acquire Mitch Trubisky, QB in free agency
  • Dwayne Haskins passes away
  • David Corley hired as the Assistant QB Coach
  • Steelers Draft a QB in the first round (Kenny Pickett)
  • Kevin Colbert, GM Retires
  • Omar Kahn is name the teams new GM
  • Andy Weidl is named as the teams Assistant GM
  • Sheldon White hired as Dir. of Pro Scouting
  • Dan Colbert hired as Dir. of College Scouting
  • Stephon Tuitt Retires after 8 years
  • And a plethora of player personnel signings and moves (and more to come)!!!!

For all the changes, the Steelers seem to stay true to their modus operandi.   Hiring coaches and front office personnel with Pittsburgh ties.  Filling lost player personnel before the draft, so we don’t have to reach on a position.  Lastly, being prudent with money and signings of free agents.

The one constant coming out of this busy offseason, is Coach Mike Tomlin.  He obviously will have a bigger stamp on the franchise going forward.  Seeing that it’s been since January 15th, 2016 (Kansas City Chiefs 18-16) since the last playoff win, the focus on Coach Tomlin will be ramped up going forward.  I predict, that if the Steelers do not have a playoff win in the next two years, that seat at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex that Coach Tomlin sits on, will start to warm up considerably.
