Sorry Yinzers. But, I detect a racial tone when it comes to how people evaluate Tomlin. He doesn’t have a square chin. He doesn’t yell at players like Cowher (coaches can’t do that much these days due to cultural shifts). He isn’t a regional Yinzer. He’s black. BUUUUUUUUUUUT, how do you explain Matt Canada? He is hated by all races (LOL). So, some of the criticism of Tomlin is actually performance-based and some of it is out of frustration with not winning in the post season or finishing with a rather mediocre record like 8-8 and 9-8. Average. And SteelerNation hates AVERAGE because they don’t think that matches THE STANDARD. He has a terrible reputation for blowing challenges and clock management (though I personally think that’s somewhat overblown like the Cris Collingworth hate). Also, remember the Steelers management, coaches included, never divulge in-house info. So, no, Tomlin did not throw AB and Bell and Ben under the bus in the press/media. They don’t do that. That is why Ben doing that to AB was funky. AND HE WAS WROING. That pass should not have been throw when he threw it. He should have read the coverage and realize AB would have to run above the coverage and not under as initially planned. Just saying as a former receiver. We run bad routes and make the QB look faulty. But on THIS instance the QB was wrong, wrong, wrong. I also think Tomlin tried to address the issues with the players but the owners don’t work like that. And these are grown men and Tomlin wants to handle them as such. THAT is why they call him a “players coach.” He demonstrates an understanding that players are men. People. Personally, I like Tomlin. But, if they move on, I’d move on, too. And support that arrangement (I don’t play the race card or make ANY decisions based on so-called “race”). But that Rooney Rule situation is just different for OUR squad because we started it. So, he’ll probably be here for at least a while. And so will the hate.
